Let Me Explain (A Talk About Race and Art)...

It's been over a year since I actually posted a blog. I've been writing (and taking up voice lessons again) so I haven't completely abandoned my art but I haven't been as motivated either. This is for a number of reasons but there is one reason I want to talk about in particular. I've been having internal issues about my past work I created. I still love it just as much as I did when I created it and I don't want to change a thing (major things) about it because it was work that I believed in and felt at the time. There's just something I need to address before I can go back to promoting and creating art freely: the race of the characters in my book series.

I've been asked by several people in the past why my characters are not primarily black being that I am a Black woman who grew up in an all Black neighborhood and only know the Black experience. It's a question I expected and will continue to expect as long as I decide to share my book series wit…

This Really Happened Complete!

I am proud to announce that my very first poetry book, entitled This Really Happened is officially complete. I will be going through the editing phases shortly and then you can expect a release on Amazon soon after.

Some of the poems you have seen previously on my social media pages but I provide an explanation under each poem. I go into detail about what I was feeling and what happened before I decided to write the poem. It's almost like a my personal journal being shared with the world. I'm scared, ashamed and excited all at the same time.

It's easily the most personal piece of work I have ever written and that will be released so far. I will keep you all updated and prepare yourselves for giveaways to support the piece. This is hopefully one of a few more poetry books. I already have an idea for a 2nd one in mind.

More to come so keep checking back!

I Didn't Forget...

2017 started off as a crazy year! I moved across the country from New York to Arizona in October of 2016 with my new husband. Since then we've been back and forth from NY to AZ (against our will) but now that I've got a new job at a new company, I'm comfortably settled in Glendale, Arizona.

I've been keeping up with my social media (mostly Instagram) if you've been following me but I haven't spoken much of most of my upcoming projects. I didn't forget about them nor have I neglected them.

I am almost finished with my first poetry book that I plan to release independently through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. I recently received my independence from my former publishing company, Line by Lion, whom I released RED and Turn It Off through. There is no bad blood but I felt as if it was time for me to take total control of my own work and build this on my own. I have a lot of work ahead of me but I almost think I can do it.

As I stated in a previous post, I pl…

Clothes for Charity!

Recently I created a Teespring account. For a long time I've wanted to create an apparel line that would donate a portion of profits to a suicide prevention charity. Well, now I've done it!

The quote on the shirt comes from a poem I wrote a few months back. It's a reminder for anyone who feels less than worthy because of doubters in their life. What I've come to find true is that most of the time the doubters and non-believers are our own family and friends, not just our foes. The apparel ranges from t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, hoodies, tank tops, totes, and mugs.  The campaign will run for 22 days only and 25% of all profits will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention!

I wanted something that would honor those who once felt the way we all have and ended it based on that false belief. I will do more campaigns like this in the future. Let's hope for a successful campaign! It ends on January 16th!

The 1st short story to "My Interpretation: Short Stories Derived from Songs" is now up on Wattpad. Please read it, vote and leave comments. The short story is called "Dangerous Love" and is inspired by Ariana Grande's "Leave Me Lonely" featuring Macy Gray from her "Dangerous Woman" album.

It's a story I am very proud of and I mentioned before these stories are like music videos on paper but more in depth. They are what envision in my mind when listening to a song. Click the title below to read "Dangerous Love."

Wattpad Exclusive Book

Anyone who knows me knows I've never been able to be consistent when it comes to my social media profiles. This is something I'm looking to change by remaining active and interacting more with my followers/readers. In fact, I'm planning on committing to that goal by releasing an exclusive book of short stories on Wattpad.

I've had a Wattpad account for 2 years now but I've failed to do anything with it. I'm a strong lover of music and I came up with an idea for a short story book based on my interpretation of songs by famous musicians/artists. It may not be about what the song references but it's my idea of a story that comes from it.

The name of the book will be "My Interpretation: Short Stories Derived from Songs". Each story will be inspired by a different song by a different artist. Much like the short stories I have shared on this blog, the reader will be advised to listen to the song that inspired it while reading for the full experience. Th…
